MUDDY STILETTOS
First off, there’s nothing else like it around here. A little space of follicular perfection, set in a not particularly glam box room above Sahara on Marlow High Street, and suggesting nothing of brilliance from its modest pavement signage.

But I have had a brilliant colour and cut there from owner Carol, a woman funkier than I can ever hope to be, and also massively experienced, having trained in wig making and theatrical makeup   – and she’s worked as a trainer to the best stylists in London herself. Even I, jaded old journo hack that I am, am legitimately be impressed with that.

Carol had obviously thought about my hair prior to my arrival, no doubt the words wispy, lank, lacking body forefront of mind. She showed me some photos of what she thought could work for me – I  liked that she’d bothered to research and more importantly I liked her ideas  – and so I let her get to work.

Unquestionably, it’s a very different experience having one person do your cut and colour in a small room, more intimate, and you’d think it could be a bit uncomfortable, but I didn’t find it that way at all. Firstly, Carol is very easy to get along with – she’s very laid back, massively passionate and knowledgeable about hair and also understands that you may not want to chat all the way through the process, or even at all.

Tell us more about Hair Box and how it started?
Its a hidden gem and a well kept secret where you can discover a fresh approach to the hair salon experience.    I offer personal one to one consultations with clients within a private environment at my salon in Marlow High Street.

​What kind of services do you offer?
Having built up a portfolio of hair and make-up skills working as a session stylist, I'm offering clients styling for all occasions. I also offer creative cutting techniques to help clients create easy to manage styles. It gives clients the chance to have a bespoke experience designed to make them feel ultra special.

The experience is relaxing because the full focus is on them, which enables me to demonstrate how hair can be managed more easily and also the chance to show clients different style ideas.
